Marquee letter lights are one of those few timelines home
decoration and gift items that always make a fashionable statement anywhere in
your house. One of the most common ways our customers use their marquee lights
is to place the children’s initials in their bedroom, creating a personalized
space that lights up at night, cozy, stylish, and brings a nice soft light for
the kids while they are in bed.
However, Marquee Lights are not only for kids. The origin of marquee letter lights started in the 1920’s as commercial signage for restaurants, supermarkets and cinemas looking for ways to attract the attention of their customers. With large bright light bulbs and targeted messages, the marquees made shopfront look pretty and gave retailers the ability to stand out, especially at night.
The team at Lights & Letters thought we would share a
few other ways to make the best use of our marquee letters outside of the kid’s
bedroom:

PERSONAL EXPRESSION: We all have an emotion,
activity or approach to life that we cherish as individuals, be it LOVE, or
PEACE, JOY or a gentle reminder to SMILE everyday despite what the world throws
at you. Use the wood marquees in your living room, in your bedroom or family area as
a subtle stylish expression of what really matters to you.

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS: As an expat living
in Dubai or in Saudi, many of us spend a long time away from our home
countries. Use the marquee lights to bring a sense of pride and constant
reminder into your house from your country. This could be through simply
spelling out the name of your country, city or town eg. NYC or PARIS. It could
also be thinking about a more specific memory that reminds you of home. For
lots of Lebanese expats, a marquee of CEDAR, BLISS, or HABIBI would be enough
to spark a heated conversation whenever you have someone over.
3.
HOME SIGNAGE: This is one of my favorites,
simple and direct. In the kitchen you would use the light up marquee letters to
spell “FOOD”. In the living room or common area the marquees could spell
“FAMILY”. In your home office, you can use the marquee letters to write “THINK”
or the most obvious but coolest one: “BAR” wit with an arrow leading to your
sanctuary.
